The Sixth and Seventh Generations

William, Natalie and Hazel Butler

William has been milking cows and making maple syrup on the farm since he could walk. In 2009 he took over the sugar woods and re-branded the sugaring operation “Moose Mountain Maple” to honor his love of moose, and the Abnaki name for Mount Mansfield “Moosehead Mountain”.  Ben, Andy, Tristan and William Butler are all sixth generation Butlers to carry on the tradition of sugaring in the Butler family. The Fifth Generation

John and Carol Butler called the farm “Butler Farm” and milked cows, made maple syrup, and raised four children on the farm.

The Fourth Generation

Andrew and Clara Butler called the farm “Butlerholm Farm” and raised dairy cows and made maple syrup.

The Third Generation

Errol and Edith Butler called the farm “Sunshine Farm”. During the great depression, they ran the farmhouse as a bed and breakfast to make ends meet.

The First Known Generation on the Farm

Ormond and Lamia’s sceond child was born in Fletcher, Vermont in 1847 and their third child, John, was born in Cambridge, Vermont in 1850. That means they moved to the Butler Farm sometime between 1847 and 1850. There are old letters that Lamia wrote to her daughter discussing boiling maple syrup on the farm!
